Somalia’s president and prime minister were embroiled in a public spat, signalling yet another power struggle within the country’s internationally-backed government.
A statement from President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud accused his prime minister, Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed, of “making outrageous decisions” and failing to have consulted him before making a cabinet reshuffle.
The prime minister reshuffled several cabinet members late Saturday, among them the minister for justice and constitutional affairs — a close ally of the president.
“It is unfortunate that the prime minister kept making outrageous decisions against the governance processes and the governing institutions in a time when the country is in crisis,” a statement from the president said.
